The topic of the Red Scare always stirs people’s minds. The rest of the world did not know much about what really was going on in the USSR and its capital city behind the Iron Curtain. On this tour you cycle back in time and with help of our professional guides discover how Moscow looked and lived under communist regime, and even taste Soviet era food.
During Soviet time Moscow underwent through significant changes in architecture, culture and lifestyle. Many historical buildings, churches and monasteries, monuments and medieval districts were demolished. In their place, ambitious and huge projects were undertaken, the first skyscrapers (Stalinskie Vysotki) were built, new wide streets and avenues stretched out, spacious parks and shady alleys appeared and one of the most beautiful metro in the world was laid out.
You will ride through the streets and places that witnessed October 1917 revolution, Stalin repressions, Great Patriotic War, military parades, Perestroika and the collapse of the Soviet Union.
The bike tour is well supported by interesting and curious facts, old photos and references to the historical documents. This tour also appeals to those interested in Soviet architecture (constructivism, postconstructivism, Stalinist imperial style, Art Deco). For lunch we will stop in Soviet style diner.
